GUESTS at the Wymondham Regal Experience's film show this Sunday will include the Lord Mayor of Norwich Jeremy Hooke and the Sheriff Roy Waller - as well as Fred Astaire's daughter Ava, who will be interviewed on stage.

The main film The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, is being screened as a tribute to Norwich born and bred Vernon Castle, a dancing superstar early last century and an heroic air ace in world war one. There will be an exhibition on Vernon Castle's extraordinary career - some of the material having come from the States.

The show will have a special significance for Irene Richardson of Norwich, who will also be present. Her aunt Althea Filby was Irene Castle's “indispensable” maid, while Althea's husband Arthur Filby was Vernon's chauffeur. When Irene Castle's autobiography was published in 1959 the famous dancer and movie star sent a copy to Mrs Richardson (then Irene Webb) inscribed: “To another Irene with many good wishes Irene Castle”. The book will be in the display.

Supporting will be a short local film from 1938 The Horsey Mail and slides of old adverts of Norwich businesses.

The show is at the Wymondham Ex-Services' Club (old Regal Cinema) at 2.30pm on Sunday. Tickets are available from Maureen Dodman on 01953 605593 or Michael Armstrong on 01953 603246 and at the Wymondham Heritage Museum. Prices are £4.50 (concessions £3.50).

Author Hannah Haym from Bath, an authority on Astaire and Rogers, has sent a signed copy of her acclaimed book Fred and Ginger for the raffle.
