It may not quite be Royal Ascot but you may see some well dressed dogs in Carleton Rode on Saturday, June 28 as the village goes barking mad with their “dog themed” annual village fete.

Reg Love, fete chairman said: “This year's event has a bit of a doggy theme. The Broadland Agility Dog Club will being giving a demonstration in the main ring. The village vicar and dog owner, the Rev Heather Potts, is judging our 'scruffy crufts' competitions. The competitions are a bit of fun and we hope as many dogs and, of course, their owners will enter - competitions include dog fancy dress, dog with best waggyest tail, wettest nose, guess the weight of the dog, and for all those dog owners who have been watching Britain's Got Talent we're got a competition entitled Carleton Rode's most Talented Dog.”

The fete is free to enter, starts at 2pm and will also be packed with traditional stalls and competitions, cake stalls, craft stands as well as the ever popular bowling for a pig, welly wanging, treasure hunt and tombola.

Resident Pat Graham added: “We even have pigeon racing competition. The pigeons are being released from in Scotland some 500 miles away in the morning and we are hoping that they will be back safely in their lofts here in Carleton Rode by the evening. Tickets for this competition are available on the day for £1.”

All funds raised with be split between the Church Fabric Fund Appeal which is looking to raise over £50,000 and Carleton Rode Village Hall.
