Hethersett and District Horticultural Society is holding its annual show on Saturday, September 12 at 2pm in the Hethersett Village Hall in Back Lane and is keen to attract new people to gardening as a hobby.

Hethersett and District Horticultural Society is holding its annual show on Saturday, September 12 at 2pm in the Hethersett Village Hall in Back Lane and is keen to attract new people to gardening as a hobby.

The society's Leslie Dale told the Mercury: 'We are always keen to attract new people to gardening and have provided separate opportunities within our Annual show's entry classes" for them to participate. Beginners can enter a tray of garden produce; a heaviest marrow; nine cherry tomatoes, five dessert apples; a specimen rose, a jam victoria sponge cake, a family photo from a negative or a digital photo of Norfolk skies."

Entries for the show have to be in by 7pm on Thursday, September 10 at the Methodist Church Hall meeting room. Further details are available from Marilyn Savory on 01603 811271.

In addition to all the member and non member competition classes for flowers, vegetables and home cooking, the show will also feature an exhibition about bees staged by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The event will also be joined by the Norfolk Winemakers Guild who will be holding its annual show on the village hall stage. Entry to both shows is 50p and refreshments will be available
