Wymondham Wasps made the three-hour coach trip to Birmingham Moseley in Women's Championship Midlands Two and were beaten 44-23.

Moseley are well established is this league and soon got a foothold on the game with an early-struck penalty, closely followed by a converted try.

Wasps responded with a penalty but Moseley immediately found the gaps in the Wasps' defence to create their second converted try. It wasn't all to go Moseley's way however and just before half-time Alice Rayner scored for Wasps, giving the visitors something to build on in the second half.

Moseley continued to assert pressure and soon put more points on the scoreboard. Amanda Jones then ran in the try to keep Wasps within touching distance.

It was then that Moseley really started to pick holes in the Wasps' defence, getting the ball into the hands of their pacy backs and scoring four tries in quick succession.

Despite the Moseley momentum Wasps dug in and were able to create chances of their own.

Under the former rules Wasps would have secured a losing bonus point when Amanda Jones scored twice to complete her hat-trick, however the new league rules do not recognise this.

Wasps were able to walk away with their heads held high but with plenty still left to work on in training.

Back of the match: Amanda Jones; forward of the match: Clare Sisson; hardest working Wasp: Libby Lockwood.

Wymondham's men had a tough afternoon in London Eastern Counties Three at the weekend, goinf down 52-7 at strong Stowmarket side who maintained their 100 per cent start to the season. Tom Poole scored and converted the visitors' only try.
