WYMONDHAM turned around a two-point half-time deficit with a barnstorming second half, scoring five tries without reply to record yet another emphatic victory on home turf.

The hosts went ahead when Andrew Nelson, returning after a month's absence, picked up from the base of a scrum and off-loaded to Ricky Holt, who scampered in for the first of his two scores.

The home crowd's cheers turned to groans when Basildon prop Jim Harman cut through to level.

With just under half an hour gone Wymondham grabbed the lead again when the lively Holt made a blindside break and released captain John Morfoot, who outstripped the defence to score in the corner.

Once again Basildon hit straight back with a John Martin try that Nick Howard converted.

However, Wymondham were back in front after just four minutes of the second half when Nelson pounced on a loose throw at an opposition lineout to squeeze over in the corner.

With the now gale-force wind behind them Wymondham launched a series of attacks and Holt scored with a searing blindside break and spectacular dive over the line. Pat Reed slotted the conversion over from near the touchline.

Wymondham then produced the best rugby of the game and a three-man overlap saw Ian Harris score in the corner. Reed once again slotted a very tricky conversion.

Minutes later Morfoot got his second when he hacked through and beat the defence to touch down. Leading try scorer Alex Brugger came off the bench and was rewarded with a trademark try which Reed converted.

Final score: Wymondham 41, Basildon 12.
