A MIXED Wymondham Town United and Lizards U8 team travelled to Taverham for their annual six-a-side tournament.
In torrential weather throughout, Wymondham won their first game, beating the hosts Taverham A 3-1.
They followed this up by beating Sprowston A and Gorleston before drawing their final group game with Lakeford, to end up as group winners.
The semi-finals saw them play Drayton, and despite racing into a 2-0 lead they were pegged back to 2-2, before deservedly getting a third to make it through to the final, where they were to face a determined Taverham A again.
In an even, pulsating match, Wymondham went into an early lead before conceding an equaliser to force extra time.
After again going into the lead, a last-gasp equaliser from Taverham took the final to penalties.
The penalty shoot-out was a one-sided affair, with Wymondham scoring all but one of their penalties, and Taverham only managing to convert one of theirs (thanks to some fine goalkeeping), enabling Wymondham to be crowned tournament champions.
The team, pictured, consisted of George, Ollie, Sam, Ben, Luke, Jordan and Ryan.
