After two disappointing home results, Wymondham Rugby Club's first team travels to Basildon on Saturday, scene of their first away victory last season, so they are hoping for a repeat performance.

This season, having survived a relegation scare by virtue of the league restructuring, Basildon are a much more formidable outfit and they have gained some notable scalps this season on home turf.

But if Wymondham can contain the Basildon pack then they have a distinct chance of victory.

Both Wymondham second and third teams are in Woodforde's Norfolk Merit league action against Watton and West Norfolk respectively. The latter will be looking to re-establish their lead at the top of the table with a win.

On Sunday, Wymondham U13 face North Walsham at Scottow in the Norfolk Cup final while the U15s are at home to Diss once again in the Norfolk Cup final.

Kick-off for both fixtures is 11am and support for both teams would be greatly appreciated.

Wymondham 14, Wisbech 38

Wymondham once again found themselves on the wrong end of an efficient counter attack machine as promotion-chasing Wisbech gave them another lesson in how to make the most of their opportunities.

Once again Wymondham failed to convert opportunities into points while Wisbech consistently thwarted any Wymondham assaults and capitalised by turning defence into attack at every opportunity, romping into a 19-0 interval lead with tries from John Turner, Will Petit and Mark Laws.

The second half needed a change in tactics and commitment from the home side and they began strongly but, once again, a turnover and counter attack gifted the visitors another score.

Wymondham were unfortunate not to be awarded a try when Chris Brown touched down but referee Tim Passmore was unsighted, awarding a five-metre restart.

Keeping up the pressure Wymondham kept it tight, driving Wisbech backwards before Brown burst out of the maul to score down the blind side with Stephen Simms converting from out wide.

Wisbech's ability to capitalise on broken play situations allowed them to extend their lead with further tries from James Napier and Laws before impressive 17-year-old David Blake crashed his way through in the last minute to set up a home try for Barry O, which Simms converted with the last kick.
