Swaffham 7 Wymondham 32

Wymondham returned to winning ways at Swaffham to put their Eastern Counties One promotion challenge back on track.

The visitors struck first with an early Tom Midgley penalty but then Swaffham produced a good move which gave them numbers out wide and they scored a converted try to take the lead at 7-3. The visitors' pack then started to assert pressure of their own and good movement by Auden Airdrie, Midgley and Josh Cousens saw Robbie Morris score a fine try, converted by Midgley.

At half-time Andy Marriot was given a breather and Tom Baxter was introduced to the second row.

Wymondham eventually won a line-out in the Swaffham half which allowed Airdrie to feed Duffin who brilliantly jinked through the hosts' defence to score a great individual try, converted by Midgley.

Swaffham were trying to set up attacks but were stopped well by solid defence and a turnover from one such effort was fed out to Alex Wigney and he set off at pace down the wing to score a marvellous try which was unconverted.

Wymondham were attacking at every opportunity looking for a bonus point try and after some great forward driving Liam Browning barged over to score it and although unconverted that pushed the lead out further to 7-27. Wymondham, who had been beaten in their two previous fixtures, were now playing well and a good scrum saw Airdrie feed Duffin and the ball passed through Midgley, Mackay and Cousens and out to Wigney who again showed excellent finishing ability to score his second unconverted try out wide to give the game a final score of 7-32.

It's as you were at the top with leaders Ely beating Woodbridge 55-5 and Wisbech seeing off Mersea Island 24-13. Wymondham remain in second place, two points behind Ely and three ahead of Wisbech, who have a game in hand. They now have a free weekend.
