Wymondham Rugby club's pre-season training got under way on Tuesday last week at the club.

It wasn't one for the faint hearted as Chris Brown had set up a tough but innovative session involving huge tyres, sledge hammers, boxing gloves and tackle bags.

However it seemed to go down well with the players who turned up and with just under 40 at this first session with some old faces returning and new ones appearing and with the promise of more to come it looks like exciting times are returning to the club.

However it is early days and there are 18 more sessions and just over two months before the start of the season and if the first session was anything to go by it's going to be a fit Wymondham squad that travels to Newmarket on 11th September.

Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursday starting at 7pm at the club and anyone over the age of 17 is welcome to come along and give it a go, experience is not an issue as a warm welcome will be experienced by any new faces.

Meanwhile, the rugby club's annual day of family fun and rugby for the Big C and the East Anglian Air Ambulance is at 11am Sunday, September 12 at Wymondham Rugby Club, Foster Harrison Memorial Ground, Tuttles Lane (East), Wymondham, NR18 0EN.

This is the 7th year that Wymondham Rugby Club will see children and adults of all ages coming together to have fun, play rugby and raise a huge amount to directly help people in Norfolk suffering with cancer and those that need a rapid medical response by air.

A challenge match between two brothers, Ted and Charlie Shelton, saw the first day seven years ago with only one match. The day has grown over the years, each year seeing more matches, more sideshows and an ever increasing barbecue! They now have children's merry-go-rounds and games, candy floss and cake stalls, ice creams, huge tombolas with valuable prizes, everything to keep the family amused and of course a licensed bar!

The day starts with the minis matches and then on to the older girls and boys, ladies and young men display their rugby talents with many players returning from all parts of the country to support the day.

The Rugby Club has taken Norfolk Charities to its heart so this has become the opening day of the season.

They have raised a massive 23,000 with gift aid so far and want that sum to increase to over 30,000 this September.

So come along, join in the fun and smile for the Norfolk Magazine's photographer!

Help the club to help people in Norfolk with these special charities that receive no government funding. Have fun at the club on September 12 and know you are doing so much good too!
