Player unavailability was a problem last weekend so it was fortunate there was no fourth team game as the club would have undoubtedly struggled to field a side.

In fact the club did well to record wins at both first and B team level.

In Division Three of the Norfolk Alliance Olly Harris' side came away from Winterton with a 19-run, victory having been asked to bat first on a difficult wicket.

Richard Wood's 73, his first substantial score of the season, provided a firm foundation as he featured in a good opening stand with Jason Whiddett (45). Ben Mann (26) and Richard Waddell (27) then helped Melton reach 203-6.

Waddell then took 3-37 as Winterton were bowled out for 184. Leg spinner Joe Bickel, called up from the A team, also bowled well as his figures of 9-1-34-3 showed and there were excellent figures too for Tom Grant (8-2-14-1) and wickets for Aaron Garner (1-38) and Ryan Hayward (1-21). Danny Snowling was the star performer for the home side with 58 and 2-16 off nine overs.

The A team made 208-6 against Old Catton at Melton Park with the runs shared around. Nick Gristwood top-scored with 48 and there were good middle-order contributions from Paul Stearman (34) and John Moxon (32 not out) while Woody Loines (12), Lee Whiddett (19), Jon Ellse (19), Martin Bunn (12) and Matt Henderson (17 not out) all made double figures. Simon Woods' bowling options were severely limited, however, with B teamers Leo DeSalis and David Bunn leading the attack.

Jake Fossey (43) and Giles Pickett made the most of the batsmen-friendly conditions with an opening stand of 88 and Picket went on to score an unbeaten 100 as Catton won by eight wickets in the 36th over.

The B team, having waited six weeks for their first victory, won again when they beat Blundeston by 67 runs at Somerleyton. Chris Mckay's 63 and 40 from skipper Matt Rushton provided Melton with a decent score of 200-6 to defend and, despite 60 from Blundeston's Harry Bamber, the home side had no answer to the accuracy of Dale Weston who took 3-13 in 10 overs and were all out for 133.

In a busy week of cricket the Ladies lost at Winterton by 67 runs despite a good performance from Megan Eustace who took 1-9 from four overs and top-scored with 16.
