A five wicket haul from Richard Waddell and good knocks from Joey Greenslade and Aaron Garner enabled Great Melton to start their Alliance Division Three season with victory over Bungay at Melton Park.

Will Lewis contributed 62 but Melton's bowlers always had the upper hand as the visitors were dismissed for 128 in the 43rd over.

Waddell was the stand-out bowler with figures of 6.5-2-15-5 but Aslam Mohammed, having waited a year for his Alliance debut, took 3-11 while there was a wicket apiece for spinners Alex Rennie (1-26) and Garner (1-23).

Melton's innings did not get off to the best of starts, with Richard Wood departing for a duck, caught behind of Chris Fuller who continued to trouble all the Melton batsmen. Matt Clarke (4), Benn Mann (13) and Nick Aston (7) were all dismissed by Fuller who took 4-16 in nine overs. Joey Greenslade batted sensibly, though, and found a willing ally in Garner who impressed on his debut.

The pair saw Melton home in the 35th over with Greenslade unbeaten on 46 and Garner on 40.

The As travelled to Alliance newcomers Snettisham, knowing that the visitors were likely to be too strong and so it proved. Despite a defiant 42 from Woody Loines Melton were bowled out for 86 in 35 overs. Snettisham then made short work of scoring the runs, reaching their target with nine wickets and nearly 34 overs to spare.

The B team held Eaton in check for 30 overs before Michael Barker, arriving late from work, joined Sam Butcher at 88-3. Butcher was eventually bowled by Fawad Kaiser for 71 but Melton couldn't remove Barker whose unbeaten 89 helped his side post 222-5. James Bridges, 14, returned figures of 8-1-27-1. Melton were reduced to 18-3 but a partnership of 86 between Chris Mckay (45) and skipper Matt Rushton (29), an unbeaten 30 from David Bunn and late contributions from Chris Wright (13) and Bridges (15 not out) helped then get to 180-8.

The highlight of the Cs' eight-wicket defeat by Colney was a defiant innings of 23 not out by young Kai Wilkinson-Loines. Chris Elliott contributed 25 and Clive Rennie 20 but Colney simply had too much experience. There were wickets for David Kidner (3-7) as Melton were dismissed for 99. Their bowlers then did a good job, making Colney bat for 39.2 overs for their win.
