A good performance from Newton Flotman saw them climb to fourth in the table after beating Martham 3-0 at home.

Steve Kelly terrorised the Martham defence with his pace and skill and the front men, David Burgess and Damian Artherton, caused problems with their direct running but the first goal was scored by a centre-half as Ed Sutcliffe rose

highest in the box to convert a corner kick.

Martham staged a comeback in the second half when Flotman started to play the ball longer and they started creating chances, which Flotman did well to keep out.

A double substitution was made with the bigger front pairing of Mark Appleton and Lewis Mace coming on to hold the ball up more and stem Martham's attacking impetus.

It worked well, with Mace holding the ball up before turning and crossing to set up Aaron Faz Doggett at the back post to nod in his first of the season.

Then Appleton was sent through by Barry Cooke to finish the game with five minutes to spare. Man of the match was Steve Kelly, who must be a nightmare to defend against when he's in this sort of mood.

Newton Flotman 3, Easton 1

EASTON took the lead after 35 minutes with a looping header that somehow eluded Clifford and the man on the line and found itself in the top corner.

The best chance for the Horsemen came from a T Bridges through-ball which Burgess struck straight at the keeper.

Half-time came and the manager changed the formation back to a more familiar set up and bringing on leading scorer Mark Appleton up front to partner Mace, the instructions were simple; attack!

Flotman equalised through Lewis Mace after 50 minutes and from then on there was only going to be one winner as Easton were pegged back in their own half with Flotman rampaging down both wings looking to kill the game off.

Mace then flicked the ball over the top of the defence to Appleton who calmly finished in the bottom corner.

Then with a couple of minutes to go the game was finished by Appleton with a low, curling shot in to the same bottom corner. It was a game of two halves, with the first being appalling and the second being outstanding.

MoM: Barry Cooke, so effective at the moment, long may it continue.
