CONNAUGHT Bowls Club, Attleborough, played six competitive short mat matches in a busy week. With county and internal league commitments on top, bowling seemed non-stop.

The highlight was a win at Hingham for Bill Adcock (skip), Gordon Wilcox (2) and Mike Parsons (lead) in the Breckland League Keith Banks Memorial Triples. Connaught fielded four triples in all. Keith Banks was a Connaught member and recent chairman of both the club and the Breckland League.

His wife, Hazel, and her daughter presented the trophy.

Bill Adcock's triple came through the round-robin stage to win well against Banham in the semi-final and Hingham in the final. Hingham hosted the event superbly.

Connaught A played well away to the powerful Coltishall side in the county cup but lost a close match 2-6 (48-49 on shots). R Wells 19-8, W Adcock 7-15, S Bragg 10-12 and D Liles 12-14.

Connaught A played three Breckland League matches, winning 8-2 and 82-49 at home to Carleton Rode and 8-2 and

67-59 away to Hingham A. The away result was a good one: Hingham have recruited well and are stronger this season.

Connaught A did not do so well away to the ambitious Wymondham side, losing 3-7 and 55-66 in a good local derby. S Bragg 13-20 v S Phillips, R Oatway 19-8 v A Wood, R Wells 8-23 v C Mann, L Fallows 15-15 v D Phillips. The winning Wymondham triples played aggressively and well.

Also in the Breckland League Connaught B lost 0-10 and 43-81 away to league champions, Yaxham. A Rush 15-20, J Winup 8-28, R Ramm 13-14 and K Lurcock 7-19. Ralf Ramm, Heather Winup and Joyce Hazell did very well against John Turner's triple; John Turner, five down on the final end, saved three shots with his last wood.
