Appalling weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of youth footballers as Hethersett Athletic held its annual fun day and presentation event at Hethersett Junior School.

Despite rain throughout the day, over 150 youngsters representing 12 teams ranging in age from U7s to U16s, both girls and boys, received club awards for completing 50, 100 and 150 appearances. Each team also made its own individual awards.

There were special presentations to last season's U16s, many of whom will be stepping up from youth to adult football in the coming season, and U11s coach Tom Rainsford, who will be going to university in Sheffield at the end of the summer.

The annual golden boot trophy for top scorer in the entire club went to U12s player Will Foster, who found the back of the net 43 times in 20 league and cup games. During the season two Hethersett youth team players represented Norfolk - Harley Hammill at U14 level and Luke Giles at U15s.

Trophies in the girls' U12s and U15s sections were presented by goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill of Arsenal and Hethersett Athletic Ladies.

There were also numerous stalls, a barbecue, tombola and raffle and, when not receiving their awards, the various teams enjoyed short-sided games on the school's back field. The day was put together by an organising committee led by club committee members Steve Raven, Mike Molloy and Richard Gamble.
