HETHERSETT and Tas Valley Cricket Club lifted their first trophy of the 2009 season when they won the Ken Ottaway 20-20 Shield with a five-wicket victory over Ashmanhaugh.

In the gathering gloom at Drayton, Hethersett took the trophy with just five balls remaining of their 20 overs.

Ashmanhaugh won the toss and elected to bat and looked to have posted a modest total with 131 for eight.

Paul Reeve was in top form with the ball, taking 4-15 and conceding just four runs in the final over whilst taking two wickets.

There was a strange hat-trick in the final over with Reeve bowling Samuel Mackay and Derek Inglis with consecutive balls and Spinks being run out off the third.

Julian Emeny and Matt Steward were both economical, conceding just over four runs an over from their four overs.

Needing to score at just over a run a ball, Hethersett were up with the run rate early on but then began to drift in mid innings until Reeve and Steward came together to swing the match in their favour.

Reeve retired not out on 31 and Steward ended 24 not out after some lusty blows to take Hethersett to victory as the light faded badly.
