AFTER last weekend's emphatic home victory over Billericay, Wymondham have another tricky home fixture against Dagenham who are just two places behind them and fighting for their survival in London Three.

In the reverse fixture Wymondham grabbed a draw after dominating most of the game but Dagenham, to their credit, fought tooth and nail throughout and the Red and Blacks should expect nothing less this time.

This will be a difficult home fixture but Dave Masdin has been fortunate in being able to select an unchanged back line whilst strengthening his forwards with the return of John Lusted and Stewart Forton in the front row.

Seventeen-year-old David Blake continues to grow in stature and keeps his place alongside former Ipswich lock Martyn Dunsdon.

The second XV, after their closely fought contest with North Walsham last weekend, visit Norwich Union for a Woodforde's Merit table clash.

The thirds face Swaffham in a home fixture and skipper Martyn Jermyn looks likely to be able to field a strong squad in this vital merit table clash.

Once again though the Tuttles Lane pitches are struggling to recover following last weekend's activities and it looks likely that the third team fixture will go ahead at Easton College whilst Gresham's School remains on standby as an alternative for the 1st XV.

Wymondham 20, Billericay 0

WYMONDHAM extended their home unbeaten run to six as they overcame a committed Billericay pack to record their first victory over the Bees whilst keeping a clean sheet in the process and, despite conceding a big disadvantage in size, never looked like conceding points throughout this fixture.

Billericay, fighting for their survival in London 3 came with one clear intention, having destroyed Wymondham in September, and that was to bludgeon their way to victory. Wymondham answered in kind, smashing the Bees backwards preventing their big forwards any chance of building momentum.

With Billericay's options exhausted Wymondham punched out of defence to take the offensive, turning the tide and winning successive penalties that resulted in a try for vice-captain, Jonathan Loades, playing his first fixture of the season following an injury in pre-season. Tom Wilson failed to convert but Wymondham had grabbed a lead that they would not relinquish.

In the second half Wymondham's front foot aggressive defence began to unsettle Billericay and Wilson slotted a penalty to extend the Red and Black lead. Then from the restart Wymondham set up a sublime attacking move that released Chris Brown but with a 50m dash the flanker had it all to do, fortunately the former Luton and Cannock flanker has pace to burn and comfortably made the line.

Wilson then converted from the touchline to give the Red and Blacks a comfortable lead.

With 20 minutes still left there was plenty of action remaining in this fixture, Barry O'Sullivan got a yellow card for a late tackle and then minutes later Etienne de Beer followed when he took exception to a particularly strong triple tackle from the Wymondham back row.

Loades then sealed the game when Stephen Simms kicked a beautifully weighted cross-field kick that saw Ian Harris, Alex Brugger and Loades waiting to pounce.

Teenager James Wyatt just failed to convert following an encouraging full first team debut.

Unsung heroes were Colin Sykes, young David Blake, Martyn Dunsdon and debutant hooker Kam Alothman who despite his diminutive size fronted up in a true David and Goliath style.
