Wymondham Town entertained Blofield in the third round of the Norfolk Senior Cup on Saturday in front of a very healthy crowd.

Town were managed for the day by director of football Mark Brown due to the holiday absence of manager Matt Bradley.

Town were absolutely immense from the start and camped in the Blofield half. Two runs and shots from the left both resulted in the ball agonisingly drifting past the far post.

In the 15th minute Town were awarded a penalty, but the Blofield keeper made a great save, tipping it round the post.

Further pressure from Town also resulted in the frustration of not being able to put the ball in the net. Blofield, in their first attack, after 30 minutes, broke down the right-hand side – a low cross came in which should have been dealt with, but it eluded the keeper for a simple tap-in at the far post.

Town were not deterred and continued to show great passion to get back into the game. They were rewarded in the 38th minute when again they were awarded a penalty. This time Town made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way.

The major turning point of the game happened just a few minutes before half-time when Blofield attacked again down the right. The centre forward picked the ball up clearly in an offside position pushed the ball too far and when it had ran out of play collided with the Town keeper. Blofield and Wymondham were stunned when the referee pointed to the spot. The Town keeper made a fantastic penalty save only to see the ball come back to the striker and with Town very slow to react bury the re bound.

At 2-1 in arrears at half-time, Town were not disheartened and cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd again attacked with passion.

In the 65th minute Town were awarded a free-kick 35 yards out on the left-hand side. A fantastic bullet-like strike curled the kick in the goalkeeper's left-hand top corner and Town were level again.

From then on there was only one side in it and Town threw everything at Blofield, whose goal led a very charmed life. Town and the crowd were silenced with five minutes to go when an innocuous looking shot from virtually the halfway line was drifting wide of the goal. Town's goalkeeper decided to jump for the ball, completely lost it in the sun, the ball striking his right elbow and deflecting in to an empty net

Town battled to the final whistle but it was not enough and Blofield won the game 3-2.

Town were simply tremendous and the insipid performances of last season are now clearly a distant memory.

It was tough for Town to take after dominating the game from start to finish, but they must bounce back in the league away to Holt. Wymondham Town Reserves are at home on the Kings Head Meadow to Norman Old Boys in the Norfolk Junior Cup.
