HETHERSETT Hawks/Swinton cycle speedway team staged their first home match of the 2010 season and, with a depleted side, were well beaten by Great Blakenham 116-63.
Despite trying hard they were often trailing from the starting gates and tactically struggling against the experienced Suffolk outfit. Four visiting riders were unbeaten with only Ben Collins and Dan Chambers getting race wins for the Hawks.
Scores: Dan Chambers 12, B Collins 12, P Adams 8, T Grimes 8, D Martin 8, Dave Chambers 7, C Grimes 5, M Perkins 3.
Hethersett B 59 (+81)-140, Gt Blakenham B 101 (+44)-145
For the Combination Division match neither side could field additional riders so the handicap points at the start gave Hethersett an 81-44 advantage.
The Hawks defended that well early on with Tim Grimes impressive but a couple of poor tactical races gave Blakenham their chance and they gradually chipped away to take the lead with one race to go. The Hawks top two tried everything they could in the last race but Blakenham took it 7-3 and the match points.
Scores: D Martin 13, P Adams 12, Dan Chambers 12, T Grimes 11, M Perkins 6, C Grimes 5.
