WYMONDHAM AC was well represented at the Wroxham 5k race on Wednesday evening with eighteen members competing in a field of 270 runners.

With the spring marathons out of the way, competitors use the race to check their speed over shorter distances. Three WAC athletes from either end of the age scale walked off with individual prizes.

Strong head wind over the past third of the race affected the times but the winner Rob Joy (Notts AC) still managed to reach the finish line in 15:34. The ladies' winner was Nicky Alford (City of Norwich AC) in 18:.52.

First runner home for Wymondham and eight overall was Oliver Milk (17:20), but it was Ben Stratton in 10th place who picked up a prize. His time of 17:37 put him first in the U17 age group.

Terry Epps (M50) and Terry Brannan (M60) continue to dominate their age group in local events and after a solid run they both won their category in 19:03 and 20:50 respectively.

First lady home for Wymondham was Juliet Cox in 23:04 followed by Kirsty Daynes in 25:41 closely followed by Anne Martin in 25:46.

Anne's performance at the age of 72 was the only one to qualify for a club platinum standard, the highest standard available.

The next highest, a diamond standard went to Oliver Milk, Ben Stratton, Andrew Preston, Terry Epps, Neil Holland, Terry Brannan and Eva Osborne followed by a gold standard for Karl Chapman, Eddie Greenland and Robin Stebbings. Silver went to James Sturgess, Ian Crutchley, Graham Coleman, Juliet Cox, Kirsty Daynes and Caroline Carr.

Wymondham AC's annual 10 mile race will take place on Sunday, June 15.
