WYMONDHAM'S triple consisting of three county players of S Phillips, D Phillips and C Mann won the County Triples title at Lakeside Country Club at Lyng on Sunday.

The Wymondham triple got off to shaky start against the unknown triple consisting of Kirby Bedon and Costessey players but scraped through with a win of 6-4.

Their next game was against the experienced Avril and Roy Grapes with Elaine Cole who all play for Woodbastwick. With some very strong ends by the Wymondham triple they managed to grind out an 11-8 win.

The last game in the group stage was against Connaught consisting of Bill and Diane Adcock and Ray Wells where the Wymondham triple, at times outplayed their opponents and got a convincing 12-4 win which meant Wymondham got maximum points from their group stage.

In the quarter-finals they played against Sprowston with the experienced Peter Smart playing as skip, and a very strong performance again from Wymondham meant they were through to the semi-final.

They were now up against one of the strongest triples of the day which were N Willard, J Turner and M Woods. The first end was won by a brilliant shot by skip C Mann which stunned the other triple and so went two up in the first end.

As the game continued the fabulous drawing shots by Wymondham put the other triple under immense pressure, and which caused the vastly experienced triple to falter as they dropped a four on the fourth end.

As the game continued, Wymondham showed no sign of nerves as they went on to win the game by some six shots.

The final was between close rivals Connaught with R Hales playing lead L Fallows playing number two and S Bragg skip. The game was close all the way through with missed chances coming from both sides.

On the last end S Bragg took the Jack into the ditch to hold three. C Mann with his last wood drew on the edge of the mat to within an inch of the dead line to take an impressive shot. But with S Bragg having the last wood it was still not over, but she was within an inch of clipping the wood and sending it into the ditch but couldn't, so it finished 8-6 to Wymondham.

Both triples will now represent Norfolk at the nationals which are being held at Kettering on Sunday, April 5.
