HETHERSETT Athletic Ladies' chances of adding the Eastern Region Premier Division title to their League Cup triumph were virtually extinguished at the weekend.

Despite winning five and drawing two in a seven match unbeaten run since the turn of the year, the team have had to watch as Norwich Ladies have strung together a massive run of wins that have taken them three points clear at the top and with a superior goal difference.

On Sunday, Hethersett dropped two more vital points as they could only draw 1-1 at Cambridge United while Norwich were beating Peterborough 3-2.

To win the title Hethersett would have to beat Royston in their final match of the season this coming weekend by at least seven clear goals and Norwich would have to lose their final game.

Hethersett's scorer against Cambridge was Nicola Bray, taking her haul for the season to 23 goals from 26 games.

Hethersett seemed to be jinxed in their match against Cambridge. Without Jodie Allard and Nikki Wigg, three key players suffered injuries. They lost defender Zoe Klimcke early on and then both Amy Brooks and Jemma Smythe had to go to hospital with head injuries.
