HETHERSETT and Tas Valley Cricket Club will be hoping to take another giant step towards a trophy treble on Friday.

They will be taking on Acle in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Junior Midweek 20-20 Cup with a 6pm start at their Flordon ground.

Hethersett are currently top of the Norfolk League first division and have already won the Wensum Knock-out Cup.

Today they have a friendly match at Flordon against Oxfordshire touring side Britwell Salome (2pm start).

Hethersett and Tas Valley made short work of beating Acle A by nine wickets to stay top of the Norfolk League Division One.

Only the weather threatened to halt Valley's progress with a number of heavy showers, hampering their bid for their 10th league victory of the season. Thankfully after tea sunshine gave them the chance to complete a nine- wicket win, set up by a solid display of bowling that saw the visitors all out for just 121 off 41.1 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.

All five Hethersett bowlers used were on form, Dave Cosford taking 3-31, Matt Steward 3-30, Lee King 2-17.

Hethersett lost opener Tim Shelley cheaply before brothers Richard and Matt Ellis settled down to push the score along with a century partnership that saw Hethersett home with over 15 overs to spare. Richard Ellis was unbeaten on 60 and Matt Ellis finished on 35 not out.

The win gave Hethersett another 24 points in the quest for the title and promotion to the Norfolk Alliance.

Closest rivals Great Witchingham had their game rained off, allowing Hethersett to stretch their lead at the top.

This week the firsts are home to Old Buckenham, the seconds visit Aylsham St Giles and the thirds are home to Norwich Union.
