GREAT Ellingham hosted Dereham looking for their first Mid Norfolk League Derek Cousins Division Two win however they were outclassed by their opponents.

Dereham won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a great start. Each of the top three batsmen; Perrin-West (15) the impressive Lake (67) and the equally excellent Hoggett (57) put Dereham in a strong position after 20 overs.

However, as bleak as it looked, Ellingham fought back with panache. Standley rolled back the years to bowl an outstanding spell of bowling and obliterated the middle and late order to take figures of 6-49. Smith (3-28) and Glover also helped to hauled Ellingham back into the game, dismissing Dereham for 203.

In reply, it was a similar poor batting display that has been seen too often by Ellingham's top order.

They slumped to 47-4, the whole top order Cooper (17) apart dismissed cheaply and this is an area which needs improvement. However Potter (30), Lawrence (23 no) and Oxborough (18) helped Ellingham to reach a modest total of 130-8. The whole of Dereham's attack performed well but Guida (2-15), Hewitt (1-21) and Cheetham (1-11) stood out.

Ellingham need a much improved performance against Swanton Morley next.

Dereham Sunday beat Gt Ellingham by 72 runs.
