Rodolfo Gonzalez produced his best-ever performance in the second GP2 race held at Spa-Francorchamps where the local racer narrowly missed out on a maiden podium position.

'I was quick and consistent in the race and but for an error at the restart I could have finished on the podium,' said the Attleborough racer.

'I think I've proved I have the pace to run at the front which gives me great confidence.'

Qualifying, and a storming start to the opening race, underpinned Gonzalez's performance with the local racer starting the first race from 12th on the grid. A blistering start saw him move up four places on the opening lap and despite a difficult pit stop secured eighth place to score his first championship point and more importantly start from pole position in the reverse grid second race.

'I'm really happy to score my first point. We had a minor setback after my pit stop, but I was able to get my head down and recover' explained Gonzalez.

Gonzalez led off race two but was passed on the long Spa straights by Sergio Perez to be second until a safety car period brought about by Christian Vietoris crashing into the safety wall.

At the restart Gonzalez's inexperience told as he was passed by both Alvaro Parente and Giedo van der Garde going left and right of the local racer to demote him in one fell swoop to fourth place - where he finished.

Oliver Turvey also had a strong weekend for iSport International making a good start to the opening race from third place on the grid.

Sadly he was run off the road in the closing laps and dropped to sixth place.

'Towards the end of the race I was boxed in behind a slower driver and in trying to get past I was forced wide which dropped me two places' remarked a disappointed Turvey.

The second race race was blighted by three safety car periods. At the start Turvey was behind Gonzalez but even with a massive tow he was unable to dislodge the Attleborough racer and eventually fell prey to those behind just Gonzalez.

Turvey's team-mate in the Carlton Rode team, Davide Valsecchi, produce a scintillating drive in the second race to finish in eighth place having started the race from 18th on the grid.

The lowly starting position was curtsey of stalling on the grid for race one, followed by three pit stops, but he did have the consolation for recording the fastest lap of the race.
