Wymondham, who visit Reepham in their next Anglian Combination Division One game on Saturday, took on a very robust Stratton side and narrowly lost 3-2 to an outfit looking for promotion.

The first controversial incident of the game occurred in the first three minutes, when the Stratton keeper inexplicably handled outside the area to deny the onrushing McCloy, but referee Nurse only booked the keeper.

Ironically, the Rooks scored from the kick as Rackham's effort was deflected into the net by McCloy. Town's great started continued and from a Rackham corner, the Stratton skipper diverted into his own net.

Stratton got the ball into the box quickly and applied pressure.

Following some concerted pressure Stratton correctly had a 'goal' disallowed.

Just before the break Stratton scored from an excellent free-kick from Barnes after a foul by Etheridge.

The next goal would be crucial and Stratton got it. A ball from the right and with Town sucked across, the Stratton striker had the simple task of heading past Hodges.

Stratton had the impetuous and scored a third from close range. Town tried to respond and Sharp drew a save from the keeper, but the best chance fell to substitute Speller.

After an excellent Priest corner, Speller rose well but headed just over. Stratton's never-say-die attitude paid off. With that mindset they have a real chance of promotion - although their celebrations on the pitch after the game might indicate they feel they are already there.

With connections between the clubs, the Rooks wish Stratton well on their quest for promotion.

Man of the match: Page, an excellent first half.
