Rooks go nap to beat Bungay

PUBLISHED: 16:23 04 November 2010

Wymondham Town 5, Bungay Town 1

WYMONDHAM needed to return to winning ways after a disappointing performance against Sprowston the week before – and they achieved this in style by going nap.

The visitors to the King’s Head Meadow were Bungay. The game started at a frantic pace as Town survived a scare at one end but went straight down the other end to open the scoring.

Cracknell launched a ball from left back and found Ramsbottom, he headed across to Rackham who volleyed in from a tight angle.

Town piled on the pressure and nearly got the second when Ramsbottom hit the bar following quick thinking from Ethridge.

Not to be denied, O’Brien put in a low shot which was saved by the keeper. Rackham reacted first and crossed to Priest who tapped home.

The third quickly followed as Downs crossed from the left and Speller out jumped the visiting keeper to score with a looping header.

Town dropped a bit deeper for the remainder of the half which allowed Bungay to get a foothold in the game but without really troubling Hodges.

Town were urged to press on at
half-time and Priest duly obliged. He was put through on the left by Rackham and his cross looped over the keeper for his second.

To their credit, Bungay showed some fighting spirit as Seaman cleared off the line but soon after they did score as Town appealed in vain for an offside flag.

If the game was ever in doubt Town sealed it in the last minute. Substitute McCloy was fouled so Speller stepped up and curled in a superb free-kick from 25 yards.

Man of the match: A number of good performances but for an all-action display in midfield and two excellent goals it goes to Speller.
