Hethersett and Tas Valley had to settle for a winning draw against Sheringham on Saturday despite hammering 301-4 at more than a run a ball.

It means that two matches into their Norfolk Alliance Division One campaign they are still awaiting their first victory, but are still well placed in the league.

Hethersett were able to field a stronger team than in their opening game, despite suffering the loss of frontline batsman Tim Shelley, who will miss the entire season after breaking an ankle in the opening game against Dereham.

Hethersett started in fine style against Sheringham and amassed what looked to be an unbeatable total of 301-4 in their 46 overs with a number of telling contributions.

Matt Ellis led the way with an unbeaten 115 and he was well backed up by Mark Gricks (43), John Curtis (39), Rob Mitchell (21), Nick Burrett (16) and an unbeaten 49 from Matt Steward.

In reply, Sheringham hit 196-9 with Hethersett just unable to take the final wicket despite a fine haul of 7-39 by spinner Robbie Matthews on a pitch that favoured slower bowlers.

Julian Emeny took one wicket and the other was a run out as Sheringham clung on for a losing draw.

Hethersett Seconds found it tough going against Old Buckenham Seconds, going down by 100 runs. Old Buckenham hit 222-6 in their 46 overs with Stuart Last taking 2-53 and Rob Scott 2-34.

In reply, Hethersett were all out for 122 in 34.4 overs with Matthew McMullan top scoring with 24 and Dave Austin hitting 23.

Hethersett Thirds fielded a very young side in the Norfolk League and lost to Old Catton by 42 runs. Old Catton scored 214-7 in their 45 overs with Joseph Wilson on 3-44.

Hethersett replied with 172-7 with John Street top scoring with 49.

Hethersett's proposed Carter Cup first-round match at home to Cromer was called off when the north Norfolk side failed to raise a team, giving Hethersett a bye into round two.

This Saturday Hethersett and Tas Valley Firsts are home to Fakenham, the seconds visit Bungay and the thirds are home to Shipdham.

The Sunday side take on Mundford at home in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League and the U15s are paying Belton a visit.
