This was the first game Wymondham had played in two weeks and they were without the services of Etheridge, Catchpole, Cracknell and Pipe.

This meant the captain's armband went to keeper Hodges. On a heavy playing surface Wymondham struck after only two minutes.

A free-kick from Priest was played into the near post; Stannard got across his marker and put pressure on the Long Stratton defender, he could only glance the ball past his own keeper.

This should have been the catalyst for Town to dominate but they never really got going other than in sporadic bursts. The back four looked solid with Felgate winning everything in the air and Hill covering the pace of the visiting striker.

Town extended their lead just before half-time through a special strike from Jimmy McCloy. From fully 30 yards out he volleyed the ball past the visiting keeper for a contender for goal of the season.

Town played the rest of the half out and could have extended their lead but Rackham was denied by a fine save from the visiting keeper.

The second half began with Long Stratton on top. They pulled a goal back from a superbly-taken free-kick which left keeper Hodges rooted to the spot. Town had to battle and this they did.

They could have extended their lead following an excellent flick-on from Scadden, who found Stannard from close range.

He was denied by an excellent save from the visiting keeper.

Wymondham did have a couple of scares themselves, with the closest their opponents getting to scoring was when they hit a post after an under-hit back pass.

For the remainder of the game, Town used all three subs with Page and Pike coming on, plus Gary O'Brien who made his first team debut. All played their part in what was a real team performance.

MoM: David Ramsbottom, defended extremely well at right-back and showed his attacking ability on numerous occasions.
