Old Buckenham got their second Norfolk League Division Five win by four wickets when they beat Sprowston at the weekend.

Old Buckenham skipper Joe Perry, notorious for batting when he wins the toss, surprised everyone by electing to bowl and was rewarded early when Simon Newbery bowled Hampson in his second over. Squire (24) and Keene (35) added 43 for the second wicket before Lee Bartlett bowled Squire in his first over.

Newbery bowled Keene to finish his 12-over spell with 2-23. Sprowston were 91-2 at drinks before a mean 12 overs of leg spin from Mike Banham put a brake on their progress.

Catches by Paul Bartlett, Robin Thatcher (twice) and Ian Pape accounted for Banham's 4-18, as Sprowston lost 5-50 in the next 20 overs. Ben Askew returned to the attack to take both Trevidi (26) and Poole (11) both caught behind by Perry to finish with 2-52 off his 11 overs. The real bonus was that youngsters Andy Halls and Lee Bartlett bowled a combined 10 overs to make up for the missing fourth OB bowler.

Old Bucks' reply saw the prolific Newbery caught behind off the ninth ball of Clarke's second over but Pape (23) and Thatcher (54) added 53 for the second wicket.

Poole had Pape lbw and Lee Bartlett bowled in successive balls which brought in Askew 51 not out to join Thatcher.

Between them they added 70 for the fourth wicket before Poole at the end of his spell had Thatcher caught behind for a second half century.

Corcoran had Perry lbw and Halls bowled for ducks, bringing Banham 15 not out to the crease with 30 still required. Askew reached his half century and with Banham scoring the winning boundary they saw OB to a second league win by four wickets with five overs to spare.
