Wymondham's poor run of form away from home continued at the weekend.

They conceded two late penalties to slump to a sixth successive defeat on their travels, losing 15-10 to Billericay.

Wymondham looked sharper early on and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Neil Harris turned over what looked like a secure Billericay ball and Ricky Holt picked up and went down the short side, backing himself to reach the line 50m away.

Wymondham then began to concede a series of silly penalties that eventually would lead to their demise and Tim Maynard converted two of them before the break to give his lead the lead.

In the second half, playing up the slope and into a stiff breeze, Wymondham looked the stronger side.

So often this season they have kicked away possession only to be punished but this week it was the opposition who committed the cardinal sin. Full-back Danny Kell hoisted a long clearance kick that was expertly fielded by his opposite number, Mark Buckham, deep inside his 22.

He then linked with Will Mitchell who beat three or four defenders before releasing Ian Harris to score in the corner. Pat Reed's conversion fell just short but Wymondham now had the lead .

With 10 minutes to go the referee penalised the visitors for offside at a scrummage under the posts, giving Maynard a simple three points.

As the game wound down the Tuttles Lane team once again they showed dissent to the referee and a penalty was moved 10 metres closer, bringing it into the range of Maynard, who punished Wymondham with his fifth penalty of the game.
