WITH hope and expectation Town went into the first game of the season at home to Poringland.

The visitors deserved their victory and Town must improve upon this if they are to realise their ambitions for the season.

The score was 5-0, with the only consolation being that the Rooks lost 7-0 on the first game of the season in the 2008-9 season!

Horsford United 2, Wymondham Town 2

Wymondham went into this difficult away fixture with the need to make amends for the poor performance the previous week.

Changes were made with Page coming in at left-back, Plumstead and Mitchell in centre midfield and McCloy up front. Town started in confident fashion with Fox linking up well with Ramsbottom but was let down by final delivery.

Parfitt and Cracknell were coping well with the experienced Horsford forwards. Town duly scored through the sheer persistence of McCloy who scored from an acute angle.

Strong defence was needed with Page getting in a number of telling blocks.

Town had a bit of luck when the hosts hit the crossbar from a corner. The second half began with Town on the back foot but Plumstead and Mitchell doing a job of protecting the back four.

Town extend their lead midway through the half. Priest forced the keeper into a save but the ball fell kindly to Pipe who finished from close range.

Horsford made a tactical change and put the experienced Nichols up front. This paid dividends as he scored following a free-kick into the box.

With ten minutes to go Horsford drew level. Again it was from a set-piece as a player came into the box unmarked (again) and after a scramble the player stabbed home.

On reflection, a draw was a fair result but after leading Town can feel a little hard done by.

MoM: Mark Mitchell, worked hard in midfield and protected the back four.

Town are seeking a linesman for the first team - any interested parties should contact manager Jason Garwood on 07889 878250.
