Hethersett and Tas Valley's Norfolk League Division One cricket derby at Great Melton was called off on Saturday due to persistent rain. The seconds and thirds did see action, however, with both notching impressive victories.

Hethersett and Tas Valley's Norfolk League Division One cricket derby at Great Melton was called off on Saturday due to persistent rain. The seconds and thirds did see action, however, with both notching impressive victories.

The seconds beat Lowestoft Seconds by 101 runs in Division Five. Lowestoft won the toss and put Hethersett into bat in a game restricted to 40 overs. Opener Rob Mitchell defied the damp conditions to hit an unbeaten century. His 102 not out included 15 fours. He was well supported by fellow opener Stephen Hayes (26) and Tristan Hunt (15) in a score of 199-6.

Lowestoft were bowled out for 98 with John Curtis taking 3-33, David Austin 3-20 and Steven Beck 3-25.

The Thirds travelled to Garboldisham in Division 10 and won by 90 runs. Again Hethersett were put into bat and scored 165-6 from their 45 overs with Alex Reeder hitting 40, Jonathan Bunn 32 and Chris Smedmor 24 not out.

Garboldisham were all out for 75 in 27 overs with Alex Reeder taking 4-19, Russell Cooper 3-20, Joe Brett 2-10 and Shaun Barker 1-11.

This week the firsts are home to Great Witchingham Seconds in Division One, the seconds visit Mallards Thirds in Division Five and the thirds are home to Felthorpe II

Hethersett and Tas Valley put in a battling performance to take a very strong Swardeston team to the last over in the semi-final of the Kimberley Cup. Hethersett batted first against a team containing a number of county players. They scored 100-9 from their 20 overs. Swardeston reached their target for the loss of four wickets but with only three balls remaining.
