Kenny Russell, a local McDonald's franchisee who lives in Wymondham, has teamed up with England legend Sir Geoff Hurst to bring a McDonald's Football Open Day to the town.

The Open Day on Saturday, September 12 is a free event for the families of Norfolk to come together and enjoy the beautiful game in an afternoon of fun football activities.

Hurst will also be involved in a question and answer session and The FA Community Shield, recently won by Premiership stars, Chelsea, will also be present for the day.

Russell owns seven McDonald's restaurants around Norwich, and over the last few years has underlined his commitment to grass-roots football in his community in sponsoring Wymondham Town United FC.

The event will be held at: Ketts Park, Harts Farm Road, Wymondham on Saturday September 12 from 10 to 4pm.

As part of its community football programme with The FA, McDonald's has created over 13,500 coaches to date across England and Russell is hoping to add to this figure as he is keen to achieve his McDonald's / FA level 1 coaching certificate and one day would like to manage one of the Wymondham Town United youth sides, particularly one which includes one of his children, all three of whom play for their local club in different age groups.

Earlier this year, McDonald's launched the 'Club Twinning' programme to create links between local restaurants and grassroots clubs.

Wymondham Town United FC are another team in the country to benefit from the new programme that sees local restaurants provide coaches and donate kit and equipment to clubs up and down the country with Kenny providing kit for the youth sides over the last few years.

Russell draws his football inspiration from his hero Bill Nicholson who managed Tottenham during the 60's and 70's. He admired his managerial style, allowing players to express themselves and would like Wymondham junior footballers to mirror this belief when playing.

He helps the club behind the scenes by passing on his business tips he has learned working for McDonald's restaurants across the country to raise the club's profile.

As well as passing on his business knowledge, Russell also has some words of encouragement for the young players of Wymondham.

He said: 'The one thing I would like to emphasise to the Wymondham juniors is to just keep on playing football and to enjoy themselves whilst doing so. I've been involved with McDonald's for over 25 years, and hopefully some of the youngsters will have a playing career for just as long!'
