Paralympian shot putter Danny Nobbs has broken his own British record by four centimetres, throwing 9.18 metres.

That's just for starters, according to the Attleborough athlete: “There is still a lot more to come,” he said.

“It's only a little bit but it's four centimetres nearer the top guys

and the world record, which hopefully I will be getting closer to in the run-up to 2012.”

Danny, paralysed in a motorcycle accident, came 10th in the F53/54 shot putt at the Beijing Paralympics last year and is gunning for gold in London 2012.

“I'm reeling in the top guys season by season. Hopefully by 2012 I'll be in contention.”

He broke the British record in his first competition of the season in Portugal after a two-week warm-weather training stint.

“My season has now started once again following Beijing, although training never stops! I was obviously really pleased - to break your personal best is always good.

“I was more pleased with the

two-week package, the strength and conditioning training has gone well. With the coaches I was working on a lot of technical aspects - I was feeling really good.

“To put everything together and see the improvement is really quite encouraging,” he added.

Danny, 29, has just heard he has been selected for the Aviva GB and NI Team for the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester on May 24, which will be screened on the BBC.

“It's going to be the highlight for this season as there are no major championships,” he said. “It will be good to have an event of that size in the UK - and it will be screened, which is great.”

Danny, who trains at Vinnies Gym in Attleborough and works at Norwich Union, is sponsored by Aviva and My Goodness Shakes.
