HETHERSETT Athletic Sunday first team's dreams of reaching the club's fourth cup final of the season were shattered on Sunday as they went down to Norwich Busmen in the semi-finals of the Norwich Sunday League Cup.

The match went to penalties after finishing 1-1 after extra time. Busmen took the lead in the first minute of the game. Hethersett then battled away in a first half which saw them going up the pronounced slope at Easton College.

The second half saw Hethersett mount attack after attack with the slope advantage and they scored a deserved equaliser on the hour when a long-range shot from John Curtis deceived the goalkeeper.

Hethersett had plenty of opportunities in the remainder of the match but failed to make the most of their territorial advantage.

In the penalty shoot-out Hethersett hit the bar and had one saved whilst Busmen missed just one to win 4-3. Hethersett now have to concentrate on avoiding relegation.

With other league results going their way, six points from their remaining three games against Marlborough, Bartrams and Mattishall will take them to safety.

Hethersett Sunday Reserves went down to league leaders St Faith's 3-1 but can be pleased with a solid season in the Norwich Sunday League. Their goal came from Adam Waters.

Hethersett Athletic Ladies have dropped to fifth place in the Eastern Region Premier Division despite a solid 1-1 draw at Chelmsford with their goal coming from Emma Mulley.

With numerous games in hand, the team still have a chance of finishing runners-up to Dagenham and Redbridge. They will now be busy preparing for their big day when they take on Cambridge University on May 10 in the League Cup final at Soham FC (3pm).

Hethersett Athletic Girls U16 beat Norwich City 4-1 thanks to two goals apiece from Hannah Waters and Tammy Graves.

Hethersett Athletic's Saturday team dropped their first points of the campaign thanks to a goalless draw with Hindolveston.

Already assured of the Crown Fire South and Central Norfolk Division Four title, they found fellow promotion side Hindolveston an uncompromising outfit who defended in depth and who had a player sent off for two yellow card offences. Hethersett missed numerous chances to keep their 100 per cent record.

The previous Tuesday Hethersett beat Beetley 6-0 with Danny Gray hitting a hat-trick and other goals coming from Matt Steward (2) and Chris Kew.

The team is now looking to wrap up its league fixtures before concentrating on its two cup finals. On April 29 Hethersett take on Gressenhall in the Fen Regis Invitation Shield final (7.30pm kick off) and on May 4 they take on Saham Toney in the Ben Smith Memorial Cup final (10.30am kick off). Both matches are being played at Dereham Town's ground.

Hethersett Athletic U11 continued their fine season, which will see them finish as league runners-up, with a 5-0 win over Heigham Park. James Pegg scored a hat-trick and other goals came from Guy Peres and Joseph Svensson.

The club's U14s went down 5-0 to Norman and the U12 lost narrowly 1-0 to Mulbarton.
