Hethersett and Tas Valley limbered up for the new season with friendlies against UEA and Beccles – producing a mixed bag of results.

Valley, who have welcomed Dave Cosford back to the club after a number of seasons away beat UEA by four wickets on Saturday.

The visitors notched an impressive 256-8 from their 40 overs with young leg spinner Sam Morton taking 5-43. Valley replied with 260-4 with Cosford hitting 82, Damian Fahy an unbeaten 66 and Richard Ellis 52.

The following day, Valley went down by 16 runs to Beccles who were dismissed for 175 in 42.3 overs, with two wickets each for Ian Harrison, Tom Osborn, David Mathews and Nick Burrett. Hethersett were then bowled out for 159 in 37.4 overs with Fahy hitting 48 and opener Ian Bryce notching 43.

On Saturday, Valley open their Alliance campaign with the firsts visiting Downham A and the seconds at home to Garboldisham A.
