HETHERSETT Hawks/Swinton and Co recovered from a disastrous start to storm back and retain their British U16 Club Championship at Eaton Park.
After making it through the semi-finals without being at their best, apart from Ben Collins who reeled off four straight wins, they had two falls and an exclusion in the first four heats of the final.
They trailed by six points and seemed to have a mountain to climb but two more wins by Collins and one each from Dan Chambers and Phil Adams saw them edge two points ahead with four races left.
Needing to beat two Norwich riders in the four remaining heats first Chambers passed Liam Parker and then man-of-the-match Collins left it to the final lap to pass Danny Wright. Sandwell's Scott Millward also came through which effectively gave Hethersett the title, Phil Adams only needing to finish the final heat. It was a truly determined effort by the whole team, epitomised by least experienced Harley Hamill who kept his nerve well.
Semi-finals: Hethersett 50, Great Blakenham 42; Poole 42, Sheffield 24. Hethersett scores: Ben Collins 16, Dan Chambers 13, Phil Adams 10, Harley Hamill 8, Danny Woods 3.
Finals: Hethersett 43, Norwich 41; Sandwell 37, Great Blakenham 36.
