HETHERSETT Hawks/Swinton & Co team gave a record performance in the second regional round of the Wosskow Brown British Youth and Junior League held in Norwich - they amassed the highest score the club has achieved in this competition.

The 18-strong squad was led by Ben Collins who notched a maximum 16 points and was very unlucky not to win the Grand Prix Final. He was a clear leader on the third lap when the race was stopped due to a faller. He failed to make the front in the re-run and had to settle for third.

Other riders to make A Finals were Callum Martin, Shane Miller, Dave Chambers, Jazz Abbott and David Adams but strength in depth was key.

The following day 41 riders from all over the South-East were at Hethersett for the second round of a Regional Grand Prix Series. Sixteen home riders took part and the most successful were brothers Phil and David Adams who won the U16s and U19s respectively. Callum Martin, Dan Chambers, Dave Martin and Tim Grimes were runners-up in their categories.

Hethersett's U13/Novice team rode very well at Eaton Park and took second place in the opening round of the Norfolk League. Scott Grimes, in his first match back after a long injury, lost just once.

This weekend the Hawks are in Leicester for the European Club Championships.

The young Hawks side kick off the tournament on Friday at noon and will have two further matches on Saturday, hoping to progress.
