HETHERSETT Hawks/Swinton and Co took a very young U10 team to Kesgrave for the British Club Championships at that level and, apart from an impressive Oliver Forder-Wilcox who won three races, they found the opposition very tough.

However, they never gave up and the 12 competition points scored in this event means that the club stay top of the overall table having won the U16 event.

Semi-final score: Newport 52, Kesgrave 45; Wednesfield 35, Hethersett 28. (O Forder-Wilcox 14, C Martin 6, K Adams 4, O Nicholas 2, N Hamill 2).

Six Hethersett riders were back at Kesgrave the following day for a round of the South East Grand Prix and three of them won their groups - Philip Adams (U16) David Adams (U19) and Tim Grimes (VET). Dan Chambers was runner-up in the U16s while in a very competitive U13 event Scott Grimes was fourth in the B final and Axl Johnson second in the C final.

There was a reduced field at the rearranged Norfolk Grand Prix at Harford Park due to holidays. In the U13/novice category Scott Grimes was second and there was a very impressive debut from Liam Banthorpe who finished third. Ben Collins was outstanding all evening and made a late pass to win the U16s with Dan Chambers third. Tim Grimes (second) and Mel Perkins (third) were finalists in the senior event.

There is a big weekend ahead for the Hawks. On Saturday the junior squad are at Somersham in the final push for national round qualification in the Wosskow Brown British Youth and Junior League. On Sunday the seniors travel to Sandwell in the Midlands in the first round of the British Team Championships.
