Great Melton consolidated their promotion spot in Division Three of the Norfolk Alliance with a nine-wicket win over Winterton at Melton Park.

Aaron Garner, who has made a major contribution since joining the club from Mattishall, took 3-20 in nine overs, added to a catch and a run out, which helped dismiss the visitors for 125.

Richard Waddell (9-2-26-3) also grabbed shone while Aslam Mohammed (2-23) and Tom Moye (1-14) were the other wicket-takers as Winterton's innings rather fell away after Wesley Noble-Parker (33) and Ryan Edmonds (38) had given them a promising start.

Matt Clarke (44 not out) and Richard Wood then took Melton to within touching distance of a 25-point victory before Wood was dismissed one short of his 50, leaving Ben Mann (13) to finish the job.

Melton, still needing 15 points to clinch promotion, face a tricky trip to Old Buckenham A on Saturday.

The A Team dismissed Old Catton for 156 at Postwick with Ryan Hayward (8-2-24-3), Dale Weston (9-3-18-3) and Joe Bickel (9-1-27-3) vying for the bowling honours. James Robb (9-1-28-1) picked up the other wicket in a good all-round performance.

In reply Tim Hales (20), Lee Whiddett (19), Connor Stearman (26), Nick Gristwood (27) and James Robb (23) all made contributions before skipper Simon Woods (13 not out) saw his side home in the 41st over, although it was Hayward (18 not out) who finished the match with a six.

The B Team needed a win against struggling Blundeston & Somerleyon to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three in Norfolk League Division 4SE with the nine-man visitors scored an imposing 181-3. Craig Wilson (2-30) was Melton's best bowler.

In reply Melton lost Chris McKay and Phil Bugg early on but 66 from Eusha Fawad, 52 from Tom Coleman and 32 not out from Kevin Ellis enabled Matt Rushton's side to reach a victory target of 184-5 in the 35th over.

Matt Clarke was again among the runs for the Mid-Norfolk Sunday side, scoring 91 not out and featuring in an unbroken stand of 113 with Connor Stearman (39 not out). With the help of skipper Tim Hales (31), Lee Whiddett (29) and Ben Mann (25) Melton totalled 261-4 but visitors Swaffham almost chased it down, finishing just nine short.
