Wymondham 4 Hempnall 1

After successive victories over Hindringham, Town entered this Norfolk Senior Cup second round tie in good spirits and dominated the opening exchanges.

As in previous weeks, Town's dominance and the amount of chances that were created failed to result in goals.

However, after 15 minutes the ball was picked up by Aaron Nixon who surged into the area, beating two defenders and rounding the keeper before coolly coming back from the byline to beat the keeper again and slot into an empty net.

Just before half-time Town survived when a tremendous goal-line headed clearance from John Blake after a Hempnall corner kept Town in front at the break. Town keeper Chris Smith also made a tremendous save to keep out a looping header.

Soon after half-time a terrific move down the right saw the ball whipped in with pinpoint accuracy for Leon Brock to score for the second week running. With Town 2-0 up, Hempnall threw everything into attack and with five minutes to go pulled a goal back.

This stung Town into action and after a fine cross from Nixon, Liam Moriaty, unmarked at the far post, scored with a fine diving header. Just before the final whistle, Charlie Blake broke through the middle to set up a one-on-one with the Hempnall keeper but chose to cross to Brock who gladly put the ball in the net for a 4-1 victory for Town.

Man of the match for Town was Charlie Blake and the victory sets up a third round home fixture against Blofield. This week Town return to league action with a trip to Beccles.

Boro made the trip to newly-promoted Blofield United Reserves looking to continue their good start to the season. The away side welcomed a host of names back into the squad. Huggins, Beales and G Mann returned to the starting line-up with S Mann and Lawrence on the bench.

The visitors started the game well and were immediately set on controlling the possession and tempo. Whitman had the first chance of the game as he was set free on the angle. However, his shot lacked the accuracy and went wide.

A well-worked short corner by the Brown brothers gave Kieron the opportunity to strike at goal. But once again the ball sailed past the goal without threatening the Blofield 'keeper. Boro should have taken the lead on the 20-minute mark when some handy work down the left by Miles presented a glaring opportunity for M Brown. The midfielder decided to take the shot on first time but blazed over the bar.

It was starting to become one-way traffic and some more intricate build-up play by the away side earned a penalty on the half-hour when Whitman was hauled down. G Mann stepped up to take it but the 'keeper guessed the right way and tipped the ball round the post to deny the skipper.

From the resulting corner, K Brown did well to work an opening and unleash another fierce shot and this time he was denied by the post.

But Boro got their breakthrough when M Brown's free-kick was knocked across goal by Beales and Whitman was on hand to tap the ball home. It didn't take long for Boro to double their lead in the second half – a goal-kick found the head of M Brown in the midfield and Whitman was the first to react and slipped the ball under the keeper/

Venables was pushed further up the pitch for the last 15 minutes and nearly got himself on the scoresheet, but his fine effort from the edge of the box was tipped onto the bar by the 'keeper. However, Venables did have his goal five minutes later as a ball across the box found him in plenty of space.

A fine performance from Boro means they have taken 10 points from a possible 12.

Boro are in league action on Saturday, at Martham.
