WYMONDHAM Town took on relegated Watton in their opening Anglian Combination Division One game of the season.

Notoriously, the first game of the season has been a bit of a disaster and this game started no differently. Town were behind after allowing the ball to bounce in the penalty area which meant the striker had a free header to beat Hodges.

The Rooks were being pushed back by the young Watton side who were playing some excellent football and soon doubled their lead with an excellent finish into the corner of the net.

The positives came when Butler narrowly missed when well placed and a couple of runs from Ramsbottom but Town had been outplayed.

The second half was a different story as Town applied pressure.

They were soon back in the game when Speller combined with O'Brien with Speller applying the finish.

With their tails up, Town scored the second. Rackham drilled in a corner, Cracknell expertly dummied the ball and O'Brien on his debut finished with power. The third goal arrived when Rackham battled down the left and crossed for Pike who delicately rolled the ball to O'Brien who again finished well.

To the make the game safe Town scored a fourth when once again O'Brien setup Speller who finished well. Watton can feel a bit unfortunate and would point to two one-on-ones which keeper Hodges saved in the second half.

Man of the match, given it was his debut, recent signing Chris O'Brien for his leadership and excellent two goals. Speller was excellent and Priest worked hard all game.
