Norfolk golfers Stuart Mackie and Daniel Williams narrowly missed out on the chance to play in the grand final of one of Europe's biggest amateur tournaments at a luxury five star resort in Egypt.
Mackie, from Norwich, and Williams, who lives in Attleborough, both play off a handicap of 17 at their club, Dunston Hall GC, and they had already beaten off competition from around 2,300 other golfers to win their way through to the regional final of the illustrious Matchplay Championship.
But at a hard-fought regional final at prestigious Marriott St Pierre in Chepstow, the pair missed out on qualifying for the grand final at the luxurious Marriott Taba Heights Beach Resort, by eight points.
Their total of 30 Stableford points was 13 adrift of the leading pair and eight points shy of securing the fourth and final qualifying slot.
