WYMONDHAM AC's trio of Angie Bear, Kim Reader and Anne Martin returned from the Norfolk County AAA Cross-Country Championship with a team gold medal.

The event took place in the grounds of Houghton Hall over a demanding four-mile course. The strong wind made it difficult for the competitors.

Wymondham AC not only scooped the Ladies' Masters team gold but also picked up several individual category medals. Anne Martin (W65) and Terry Brannan (M60) both won their respective age group with Angie Bear (W50) and Jerry Watson (M50) coming second in theirs.

On the same day, Eva Osborne had a good run in the final event of the Suffolk Cross-Country League held at Bury St Edmunds, consolidating her first position in the W65 age group.

Further afield, Mark Tufts took part in the Brentwood half-marathon.

Tufts, who was voted the road runner of the year in 2007, continued his reputation for constantly improving by setting yet another personal best time for that distance.

Meanwhile, long-distance runner Russel Clarke competed in a race over the unusual distance of 40 miles. His time of five hours, 40 minutes placed him 18th overall.

This was a great achievement considering many runners need that time to cover the marathon distance.

The annual Wymondham 20 and 10 mile races take place on Sunday, March 2 (at 10 and 10.30am respectively). Race centre is at Wymondham Central Hall. Online entries taken via the www.runnersworld.co.uk website
