Mulbarton Wanderers are Anglian Combination Division Four champions.

Having all but secured the title with a 3-0 win at Redgrave last week, they beat Long Stratton 2-0 at home on Tuesday to clinch the title.

Wanderers finished on 71 points, three points ahead of Hoveten Wherrymen.

Mulbarton were happy to see the game at Redgrave go ahead, grateful for the afternoon sunshine which had helped dry the pitch.

Pitch conditions dictated it was never going to be a great game of passing football from both sides, but both acquitted themselves well and the first half was fairly even.

Wanderers managed to break clear of the Redgrave back four a handful of times, using the pace of Mark Appleton and Ian Babb, but each time either found their goalkeeper outside the box 'sweeping up' or our finishing let them down.

After 40 minutes, and with a couple of the travelling supporters getting nervous thinking that this might be 'one of those games', George Newbery was released on the right wing by Matt Dye. His trickery saw him skin the Redgrave left back who then brought him down in desperation just inside the penalty box. Rudi Hare stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

That settled the nerves and Wanderers went in at half-time confident they would see the job through.

George Newbery, again found by Matt Dye, was fouled in the box as he attempted to skip past a Redgrave defender and Hare stepped up again to make it 2-0 from the spot.

Appleton, who had missed a hatful of chances, did get himself on the scoresheet on 75 minutes to continue his fine run of scoring form.

George Newbery played the ball, Appleton outran the Redgrave defence, rounded the keeper and finished from 12 yards to make the full-time score 3-0.
