DAN Chambers, a 16-year-old rider from Hethersett, stunned the cycle speedway world by capturing the coveted Norwich Grand Prix title as the new season opened at Eaton Park.

Taking on a field that contained both England and Poland senior internationals, he kept his composure while others were making mistakes and his 17 points at the end left him clear of the field.

Earlier, he and Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co Club colleague Phil Adams had dominated the U18 Malcolm Flood Memorial Trophy.

Chambers passed Adams in style in heat eight after recovering from a heavy fall in his opening ride. He dropped just one point to take the trophy and set up a fantastic double success later in the day. Adams scored 17 and scooped the runner-up trophy.

Other Hethersett riders put up good performances - in the U18 event Ben Collins and Leon Wild finished joint seventh with 13 points apiece while in the Senior event David Adams finished 12th with 10 points.

Chambers will be in action for the Hawks this coming Sunday as they open their South-East League campaign at Ipswich.
