Hethersett Hawks riders had their first action of the season over the weekend. On Saturday Dan Chambers came up against a top-class field in the Midlands Grand Prix at Wednesfield (West Midlands) and scored six points in the semi-final. He was back in action on Sunday at Ipswich for the Dave Andrews Memorial Trophy. He scored nine points, but four other Hethersett riders made it into double figures. Lee Grange, in his first outing in a Hawks shirt, finished highest with 13 points and seventh place. Other scorers were Leigh Cossey 11 and Phil Adams 10. All riders had races when they were unlucky not to score more. In the corresponding junior event dominated by home riders Oliver Buxton scored nine. It was a good warm-up for the South-East League campaign which starts this coming Sunday with the Hawks in action at Great Blakenham in both Division 1 and 2.
