This weekend Wymondham 1st XV travel down the A47 for another away fixture in the London Three NE, this time against county rivals West Norfolk.

Having now lost 12 league and cup away games on the bounce, Wymondham would dearly like to make this 'Lucky Thirteen'.

Unfortunately, fates have served to deliver another away day blow to Wymondham's hopes with several first-team players unavailable; couple that with a resurgent West outfit and winning Euro Millions seems to have better odds than a victory at South Wootton on Saturday.

West will be looking to avenge their unfortunate loss at Tuttles Lane when Wymondham grabbed the winner several minutes into stoppage time.

Despite narrowly losing several games in the dying seconds West have started to turn their season around and have begun to flit in and out of the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Wymondham have yet to win away but hold onto a mid-table place by virtue of their home record, however West Norfolk have one of the best points differences in the bottom half of the league. Saturday's victors will go along away to securing their safety in London 3 and the losers will be looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack.

The second team has no fixture, while the thirds are at Fakenham II in the league.

Upminster 30, Wymondham 0

After keeping clean sheets at home in consecutive weeks Wymondham suffered a major setback as they found themselves on the receiving end with a rampant Upminster putting Wymondham to the sword as the Red & Blacks looked second best for most of the game.

Making 11 changes from the previous week in the starting line-up and two on the bench, Wymondham knew that it would be difficult against one of the best forward units in the league. Playing down the slope, Wymondham would have hoped to exploit this advantage but the U's pack was in a dominant mood and never allowed the Red & Blacks any respite, romping to a 20-point lead with three tries and a penalty before the break.

It would seem that with the slope it their favour U's would destroy Wymondham in the second

40 minutes. Gareth Clifford, who had bravely stepped in after a week of illness, made way for Kirk Vincent in the front row.

Vincent had never played this position but stepped in following the loss of Joe Elderkin prior to the game. But his bravery won praises from the whole team and won him the Leathes Prior man of the match award as Wymondham began a desperate fight to hold onto some pride.

A magnificent defence restricted Upminster to just one penalty as they threw everything at Wymondham, and the Red and Blacks held out

for over half an hour before the line was finally breached.

Wymondham's only encounter into the U's half was in the final five minutes but they could

not cross the line and, despite several opportunities to strike, the wrong option was taken and a Wymondham error brought an end to the fixture.
