CRICKET: Valley back in form

PUBLISHED: 11:57 21 June 2012

Hethersett and Tas Valley re-found their form to send Hales and Loddon packing in Division Two of the Norfolk Alliance.

After struggling for a few weeks, Hethersett got back to winning ways, with opener Nick Burrett hitting a century as Valley chased a seemingly tough target of 211-5 set by their opponents, with Julian Emeny the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 2-38. Youngster Joel Howard looked a good prospect for the future, conceding just 16 runs from his six overs.

Opener Burrett made short work of the Hales attack, plundering 106 and falling just before Valley reached their target for the loss of four wickets with over four overs remaining. Burret was well supported by Robbie Matthews (25), John Curtis (29) and Damien Fahy (35 not out).

Hethersett and Tas Valley II found the going tough against Thetford and were bowled out for just 72. Thetford replied with 76-2.

Hethersett and Tas Valley III restricted Blundeston to 160 all out in their Norfolk League fixture, but then slumped to 80 all out in 28.3 overs. There were two wickets each for Dale Clarke, Max Adams, Cameron Clarke and Nick Davies, but Valley’s batting let them down with Oliver Hutt top scoring with 19.

This week Valley I have a derby at Great Melton, whilst the seconds are home to their near neighbours. Valley III are home to Diss III.

Valley are through to the semi-finals of the Wensum Cup 20-20 competition after beating Greens by 22 runs in the quarter-finals. Hethersett scored 128-7 with Rob Mitchell hitting 43, Tristan Hunt 28 and Steven Hayes 26. Greens were restricted to 106-9.
