CONNAUGHT Bowls Club, Attleborough, find themselves in the closing stages of the short mat season with end of season competitions and the club's own championships.

Connaught entered a team of five in the South Norfolk League Bux Box competition played at Lyng. The competition was won easily by Hempnall while Connaught's players had a mix of wins and losses.

The next day Connaught entered two teams of ten in the much bigger Breckland League Dennis Moore tournament played at Hingham. The competition was a very even one with honours shared among several clubs.

Banham did well, winning the singles through John Williamson and winning the trophy for most shots overall. Connaught's main success was in the pairs, won well by Ollie Allen and Christine Musk after a solid day's bowling. Thank you to Roger Braham for organising and to the Hingham club for hosting so well.

The finals of Connaught's own championships are taking place. Ollie Allen beat Sylvia Parsons 17-15 in a well-contested and skilful singles final; the pairs, triples and fours are still to be played.

Connaught's green opens on Saturday, April 24 with a drive starting at 2pm. Any bowler new to the area is welcome to turn up and join in (phone Mike Parsons on 01953 452273 for any details). Coaching for new members and the general public starts on Saturday, May 1, 10am-noon.

The sessions are free, bowls are provided and dress is informal (but wear flat-soled shoes, please). Phone John Winup on 01953 789382 for any details.
